Digital Lens

Now that I’m using the Phase One P65+ I’ve noticed that my non digital 150 isn’t as sharp as it once was. I was using the Schneider APO-Symmar L lens 150/5.6. I’ve upgraded that to the Schneider APO-Digitar M lens 120/5.6.

I did a very quick test on a flat surface. The digital lens does much better with sharpens and retaining detail in the highlights. I photographed at f-16 rather than the optimal f-8 or f-11. I wanted to test the lens how I would be using it, which is mostly f-16 – f-22.

    Hello Peter -

I actually came to your site after watching your time lapse video of macworld cover creation process. Truly very impressive work indeed. My wife is interested in opening an online jewelry store for which we will be taking web quality pictures. I am wondering if you can provide any guidance and tips on web based photography and what would be the minimum suggested hardware (computers, lighting equipments, cameras, lenses, pen tablets, etc.) and software requirements (wants vs. needs). We do have a Nikon D80 with a much older (~ 18 years old) Nikkor lens 35-135mm with built in macro and it takes decent pictures. We also have Macbook 13 and a Dell XPS (WinXP) with Adobe Photoshop CS3, though learning PS skills has proven to be quite a challenge.

Certainly not trying to become a pro, but something to get by and get good results. Will be very grateful for your tips and guidance.

    Many thanks.. Truly amazing work.

    Cheers!!!

    Hi Addi,

Thanks for the comment. I think you are on the right track. A camera with a macro lens is a definite plus for what you have in mind. Shooting tethered to your computer will help as you need to see the image large rather than just on your camera screen. Also, exploring Photoshop is beneficial. There are tutorials and books out there to help. I suggest you visit your local professional photo store to inquire more about lighting equipment. It is a huge market and they can better assist you for your needs. Good luck and I hope this helps.

    Hi Peter -

I just happened to be at an Apple Store recently and I was just watching the iPhoto slideshow and for some reason someone’s face looked strikingly familiar.I am pretty sure it was you in those Boston trip pictures. Not that I have ever seen or met you, but just a guess; I think the glasses kind of gave away the clue.

Anyways,it is inspiring to see your work and PLEASE! post some more work stuff on the blog, soon!
